Emergency Room Copay Adjustment Effective 1/01/2025

We want to provide you with an important update regarding the Emergency Room (ER) benefit in our 2025 health plan.

Previously, we communicated that the Emergency Room copay would increase to $250 per visit effective January 1, 2025, and updated insurance cards reflecting this change were sent to you. After further review, the decision has been made to reduce the Emergency Room copay to $150 per visit.

What You Need to Know:

  • Revised Emergency Room Copay: $150 per visit facility
  • Coinsurance: No additional coinsurance applies
  • Deductible: Waived
  • Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Updated Insurance Cards:

  • Our third-party administrator (TPA), UMR, will update the health plan and reissue new insurance cards reflecting this adjustment. You should receive the updated cards by early next week.
  • In the meantime, your current insurance cards are valid and can continue to be used. The only difference is the updated ER copay of $150, which will be reflected on the new cards once received.
  • Once you receive the new insurance card, please disregard the old card. Providers determine the copay at the time of service based on the amount listed on the member's ID card. If you present your original ID card, you may be charged the higher, outdated copay, and recovering the overpayment will be your responsibility. Refunds from providers typically take 4–6 weeks after the claim is processed by UMR.

Plan Document Updates:

  • The Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) will be updated to reflect this adjustment. These documents will be posted as soon as administratively possible.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we finalize these changes. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding your coverage, please don’t hesitate to contact the Benefits Team at BEPC HR Benefits BEPCHRBenefits@bepc.com

Thank you for your attention, and we remain committed to providing comprehensive, competitive healthcare benefits for you and your family.

Claims Administrator Change

Each year, we review our benefit plans to ensure market competitiveness, quality service, and overall value for Basin Electric employees and retirees. Following this year’s evaluation, we’ve decided to switch our benefits administrator to UMR, effective January 1, 2025.

The responsibility of a medical claim’s administrator is to administer the plan that Basin Electric designs. Our medical plan continues to be self-funded, which means we pay claims once benefits are applied and processed.

Resource materials will be mailed by the end of September.

Our team, along with UMR, is committed to making this transition seamless and addressing any questions you may have regarding care, pharmacy, or provider concerns.
